Selection for 29th April 2006

BOSTON UNITED at HOME to Rushden and Diamonds
Best Price 5-4 Sky Bet

The business end of the season gives us a great chance to bet against the worst team in the Football League at odds- against. Realistically, Rusden need to win their last two games to have a chance of avoiding the drop and looking at their performances in their previous two games, their chances look slim.

Rushden have lost twelve of their twenty-two away games this season and have lost their last two league matches, conceding seven goals in the process. To make matters worse for the Diamonds, they must do without the services of defender Rob Gier who was sent off last week. Only Drew Broughton (ten goals) has scored more than five goals this season for Rushden and this clearly spells out why they have struggled all season long.

Boston played really well last weekend but somehow lost 3-1 away at Bristol Rovers. Prior to this match they had two good wins against Oxford United and Peterborough United.  Julian Jochaim is the Pilgrim’s top-scorer this season with fourteen goals and scored last week in the defeat at Bristol Rovers. Hi s pace will be a constant menace to the young opposition defenders and it would be no surprise to see him add to his tally in this match.

The bookies have made Boston odds-against because they have nothing to play for in terms of promotion or relegation and Rushden are fighting for their lives.  Rusden have been in need of the points in their last two games but they have been easily beaten and it is hard to see them pulling off a great escape.

One more win will give Boston their highest points haul in their short football league history. Hopefully this will be enough motivation for them to finish their season on a high in their last home game of the season.

Selection for 15th April 2006

CRAWLEY TOWN AT HOME to Aldershot
Best Price 11-8 Stan James

A mid-table Conference match is not the most exciting match of the weekend but it does provide us with a great betting opportunity. Before drawing 1-1 with Burton last weekend, Crawley had won five consecutive games without conceding a goal. This great run of form has taken them away from the relegation zone and one more win should kill off any lingering fears of relegation.

Aldershot looked to have given up for this season now. Manager Terry Brown is spending most of his time away from his squad at the moment looking for new players for next season. For the rest of this season injuries have forced him into blooding his younger players sooner than he would have liked but with nothing to play for he is not too bothered.  The Shots have doubts over Darren Barnard, Gary Holloway and Jonny whilst captain Steve Watson is definitely out for this match.  Goal-keeper Nicki Bull was taken off in their last match at half time but he is expected to return for this match.

Away from home this season, Aldershot have lost the same amount of   games as bottom side Scarborough and it is only their great home form that has seen them keep a mid-table position. Last week’s 3-1 home defeat to Cambridge United followed a 2-1 defeat at relegation threatened Tamworth.

Before Crawley went on their five match winning run they got rid of their top earning players in a move which helped save the club. John Hollins’s men responded well after this, as their results proved and they now look a more galvanized team.

A team with the one of the worst away records in the league, playing with a youthful side against a team who have only conceded one goal in six games and who are on high on confidence, looks a banker home win. At the price available Crawley look far too big a price.
